According to the UN Refugee Agency, education is the best way for refugee youth to process the trauma of displacement. We support a Scouts program that provides a safe space for refugee youth to process trauma.
The program allows youth to build community, act as role models, and take language classes. This is important when making friends and integrating into their new community!
It builds on four core values: kindness, focus, responsibility, and teamwork.
On the weekends, Scouts explore the local area by going on excursions outside of camp. These children begin developing a sense of belonging and familiarity with their new community. The peer Scout leaders are responsible for their group and are trained to support learning and implement activities.
